Maps (in alphabetical order)
Bicentennial Trail, Amherst Town Dump Area, Amherst NH
This map is from the 1906 USGS quad showing several old roads running between what is now NH Route 101 and Dodge Road in Amherst. These roads are still evident in the woods, and the Bicentennial Trail maintained by the Amherst Conservation Commission parallels Dodge Road and runs all the way north to the Joe English Reservation.
Dunstable Rural Land Trust, Dunstable MA
Just south of the NH/MA state line near Hollis and Nashua. Hiking, mountain-biking, paddling, and birdwatching permitted.
Groton Town Forest, Groton MA
Hazeltine Reservation, Amherst NH
Mountain-biking is permitted. The New England Mountain-Biking Association (NEMBA) maintains a mountain-bike loop here.
Horse Hill Conservation Area, Merrimack NH
Horse Hill is more than 500 acres of conservation land just south of Amherst Road. There is a variety of wood roads, trails, and powerline cuts that go through here. The Merrimack Conservation Commission is marking some officially maintained trails (shown in a new brochure), but there is lots more to explore as well.
Joe English Reservation, Amherst NH
Great hiking/snowshoeing/skiing in this conservation area. No mountain-biking though. Here's a link to another map provided by the Souhegan Valley Land Trust: Joe English Reservation.
Lyndeborough Road, Patch Hill Area, Amherst NH
Conservation land with some roads, trails, and old quarries.
Moody Park, Claremont NH
This is a large park near downtown Claremont that has a fantastic collection of trails ranging from easy to insanely steep. There are some spectacular ravines here. If you're in Claremont, this is worth a visit. (This map is from the Claremont Parks Department brochure on Moody Park.)
Purgatory Falls, Mont Vernon NH
This map is the from the 1953 USGS Milford quadrangle, showing the discontinued Upton Road and Purgatory Road.
Townsend State Forest, Townsend MA
This map is a DNR (Department of Natural Resources) from the town of Townsend web site: TownsendStateForestMap.pdf
This map is from the 1944 USGS Townsend quad. There are a number of
old roads and trails in Townsend Sate Forest, but this is a large area
and it may be easy to get lost here.
This map was originally on the NEMBA website. I found it via Andrew Wolfe's page of map links (Off Track trail map links).
